Hi Everyone,
Last year we have created some articles about the dimensional model in conjunction with the QlikView. We would like to provide some additional information concerning the QlikView autonumber function that we used in the example applications that accompanied the articles.
The autonumber function in QlikView is working just fine when it is used within the same application. Furthermore, you will not be harmed when all the qvd files are created within a single script. However, when creating qvd files in multiple scripts and/or storing the data per time period (year/quarter/etc) you'd better wait with the autonumber function.
Creating compound keys and only start generating numeric keys in QlikView user applications with the autonumber function is the route to take. This will result in faster applications, we haven't benchmaked this though, but in general numeric keys are faster than alphanumeric keys.
Just some additional thoughts on this.
Kind regards,
The QlikConnect team.
